Okay. So in my defense, this is the first of my three children to EVER be in a cast! 7 yrs and only one cast. I would say that's pretty good....Here's the story:
So Max was playing with Van while I was packing to go to San Francisco for the weekend. Max went down the stairs and Van apparently followed him. All I heard was a tumble and then SILENCE. You know your kid is hurt when it takes them a while to cry...So I scoop him up and try comforting him and he seems to calm down after a minute or two. The poor kid was coming down with a cold also and was kinda fussy already. I really didn't think much of it, and I was in such a rush to get out of the house to drop him off at a friends that I didn't think that he really could have hurt himself falling down the stairs!
Fast forward through the weekend and when I see him on Monday I notice he is not crawling...Hmmm...that's weird. Tuesday rolls around. No crawling. Finally on Wednesday I called my pediatrician and they saw him that day. The doc thought it was his elbow and so sent me off to Radiology to get some x-rays taken of his shoulder and elbow. No fracture they tell me. So I go home and Van still is not crawling...Fast forward to Monday (which is the soonest apt I could get to see the Pediatric Ortho), they x-ray his arm and wrist and in about 30 sec were able to tell thathis arm was BROKEN! So they took him back and put a full arm cast on him that he gets to have and not get wet for the next 2 weeks!
I think I should be in the running for Best Mother of the Year award. It only took me 10 days to realize that my baby's arm was broken! Awesome.
